Kidney Stone Concerns

Flank pain, urinary symptoms and why scans and urology assessment come first.

Introduction

Kidney stones are hard deposits that form in the kidneys and can cause severe pain as they pass. Some small stones pass on their own, while others cause blockage or infection and need urgent treatment.

Common symptoms

  • Sharp pain in the side or back, often radiating to the groin
  • Blood in the urine
  • Burning or frequent urination
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Cloudy or foul-smelling urine

Potential causes

  • Low fluid intake and dehydration
  • High salt, animal protein or oxalate-rich diet
  • Family history and metabolic conditions
  • Recurrent urinary infections
  • Certain medicines

When to seek urgent medical attention

  • Severe pain with fever or chills
  • Unable to pass urine
  • Persistent vomiting
  • Pain in someone with a single kidney or known kidney disease

In an emergency, call 112 or go to the nearest hospital.

Diagnosis and conventional treatment

Ultrasound, CT scan, urine and blood tests identify stone size and location. Conventional care ranges from fluids and pain relief to procedures such as lithotripsy or ureteroscopy, plus dietary advice to prevent recurrence.

Scope and limitations of a homeopathic consultation

Kidney stones can damage the kidney and need medical imaging and, when large or obstructing, procedural treatment. Homeopathy has not been shown to dissolve or prevent kidney stones. Please consult a urologist for diagnosis and treatment.

What the consultation involves

You will be asked about your concern, its history, your medical background, and current medicines. Please bring recent reports. Where appropriate Dr. Jain may advise investigations or a specialist opinion, and you will discuss follow-up guidance before leaving. See the full consultation process.
