Understanding Migraine Symptoms

How migraine differs from ordinary headaches, common triggers, and the warning signs that need prompt medical attention.

Migraine is more than a bad headache. It is a neurological condition that can disrupt work, family life and sleep.

Common features

  • Moderate to severe, often throbbing pain, usually on one side
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Sensitivity to light, sound or smells
  • Aura: flashing lights, blind spots or tingling before the headache in some people

Common triggers

Missed meals, lack of sleep, stress, dehydration, hormonal changes, bright lights and certain foods are frequently reported. A headache diary can help reveal your pattern.

When to seek urgent care

Seek immediate medical help for a sudden, severe headache, or one with fever and stiff neck, confusion, weakness, speech or vision changes, or following a head injury.

Getting a diagnosis

A doctor can usually diagnose migraine from your history and examination. Treatments include acute and preventive medicines and lifestyle measures. Homeopathy has not been shown to treat migraine; speak to your doctor before changing any treatment.

This article is general information and not medical advice. Homeopathy lacks reliable scientific evidence of effectiveness for specific medical conditions. Please consult a qualified doctor about your symptoms.
